steam rollin' the haw river

We set out on the haw river at chicken bridge in pittsboro late sat. afternoon. we cruzed the "steamroller" down the river a few miles and then made camp at dusk on an island.

i gave my canoe that name for two reasons. 1. we just plow it through the rapids and never slow down. 2. we joke about hauling ass up to a random kayaker and plowing into him and yelling out "steamroll bitch" in the process. we always laugh about that.

we put down some red snappers and laughed as the angry beavers slapped their tales at us that night. we found some really big wooly worms on a tree. we couldn't remember the old saying about the colors of the woolies and the harshness of winter though.

we found this little guy buried down in the leaves so we took him over and placed him close to our fire so he could warm his little turtle bones.

the next day we packed up camp and headed out ready for action.

along the way i spotted this jewel in the bushes! an inflatable boat that was like brand new. we rolled that mutha up and took it with us. i checked out it's value online and it's retail is like $450!!! KILLER FIND!!

we did the rest of the river with no probs. the water was really high and the waves were huge. we swamped the canoe a bunch of times and had to do some serious bailing. we made it through everything with no tipping so all was good. well, i'll see ya on the next update.
